The Spiral Tower in the Heart of the Hill Country
Ambuluawa Biodiversity Complex is a unique attraction in Sri Lanka's hill country — a forest conservation area centred on a striking 48-metre spiral observation tower near the town of Gampola, close to Kandy. The tower is built in a helix design with no internal lift — visitors climb a spiralling external staircase to reach platforms with panoramic views over the surrounding tea-covered hills and the Mahaweli River valley.
The complex is set within a forested hillside that the tower itself rises through — giving the impression of the structure emerging from the trees. It is managed as a biodiversity park with endemic flora, birds, and small wildlife. The tower is often combined with a visit to Kandy as a half-day excursion.

Biodiversity Park
Endemic birds, native trees, and forest walks around the base of the tower — a green alternative to the busy Kandy city centre.
Mahaweli River Views
The valley below holds the Mahaweli River — Sri Lanka's longest — winding through the hills visible from the tower platforms.
