Sigiriya · Kandy · Ella · Yala · Galle

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Whale watching at Mirissa (November—April) can be added on Day 9 — blue whales and sperm whales are regularly sighted offshore.

1

Arrival & Transfer to Sigiriya

Colombo Airport → Sigiriya

Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport and transfer directly to Sigiriya (approx. 3.5 hours) for the first night.

2

Sigiriya Rock Fortress & Dambulla Cave Temple

Sigiriya → Dambulla

Climb Sigiriya Rock at dawn's first light, then explore Dambulla's golden cave temples — the best introduction to Sri Lanka's ancient Buddhist heritage.

3

Sigiriya to Kandy — Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage

Sigiriya → Pinnawala → Kandy

Stop at Pinnawala to watch the elephants bathe, then continue to Kandy for the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. Evening cultural dance performance.

4

Kandy — Peradeniya & Cultural Immersion

Morning at Peradeniya's Royal Botanical Gardens and an afternoon walk around the Kandy Lake. Optional: visit the gem museum or a local market.

5

The Scenic Train — Kandy to Ella

Kandy → Ella

Board the famous hill country train through tea estates and mountain tunnels to Ella — one of Asia's great rail journeys, with views at every turn.

6

Ella — Nine Arch Bridge, Little Adam's Peak & Ravana Falls

A full Ella day: hike Little Adam's Peak for sweeping views, photograph the Nine Arch Bridge, and cool down at Ravana Falls in the afternoon.

7

Ella to Yala National Park

Ella → Yala

Drive south to Yala and take an afternoon jeep safari into the park at golden hour — leopards, elephants, crocodiles, and sloth bears in their natural habitat.

8

Yala Morning Safari & Mirissa

Yala → Mirissa

An early morning safari for the best leopard sightings, then drive along the south coast to Mirissa — a crescent-shaped bay with golden sand and a reef for snorkelling.

9

Mirissa Beach Leisure

A full day at leisure on Mirissa beach — swim, snorkel, or join an optional whale watching excursion (November—April) to see blue whales offshore.

10

Galle Fort & Bentota

Galle → Bentota

Morning walk through the UNESCO-listed Galle Fort, then a relaxed afternoon at Bentota beach — a long, calm stretch of sand perfect for a final swim.

11

Colombo & Departure

Transfer to Colombo for a short city tour — Gangaramaya Temple, Galle Face Green, or a last browse through the Pettah markets — before your international departure.
