Follow the route of ancient kings — from Colombo north to the sacred capital of Anuradhapura, through the Cultural Triangle and into the misty highlands.
Nuwara Eliya sits at 1,868 metres — evenings can be cool (12—16°C). We recommend packing a light jacket for the hill country nights.
Your driver meets you at the airport and transfers you to Colombo. A late afternoon city drive takes in Gangaramaya Temple, the colonial Galle Face Green, and the vibrant Pettah bazaar — Sri Lanka's commercial heartbeat.
Colombo → Anuradhapura
Drive north to Anuradhapura (approx. 4 hours), Sri Lanka's first and greatest ancient capital. Explore the Sri Maha Bodhi, Ruvanveli Dagoba, Jetavana, and Abhayagiri — ancient monuments of a civilisation that flourished 2,300 years ago.
Anuradhapura → Sigiriya
Transfer south to Sigiriya and climb the extraordinary 5th-century rock citadel — ancient frescoes, terraced water gardens, and panoramic views over the jungle plain that make this one of the world's great archaeological sites.
Sigiriya → Dambulla → Kandy
Visit the golden Dambulla Cave Temple before driving south to Kandy — Sri Lanka's cultural capital and the last home of the Kandyan kings. Evening visit to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic.
Kandy → Nuwara Eliya
Drive up into the mist-wrapped highlands to Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka's "Little England", passing tea estates that carpet every hillside in brilliant green. Tour a working tea factory and taste freshly-picked Ceylon tea at source.
Nuwara Eliya → Horton Plains
An early morning drive to Horton Plains National Park — a dramatic high-altitude plateau with rare endemic wildlife — ending at World's End, a sheer escarpment with a 900-metre drop into the southern lowlands below.
Nuwara Eliya → Colombo
Drive down from the highlands through tea country and lowland villages back to Colombo, with a stop at a waterfall or local market en route. Transfer to the airport for your international departure.
